Like Apostles of Christ in the World
Our desire is to be a missionary community because what we propose is detachment from our selfishness so as to reach the point of giving ourselves to one another. It is important to be clear as to why our young men and women leave for Brazil, Mexico, Peru, Argentina and Russia. They do not go for themselves but for others, for a mission and not just for an experience. Mission is synonymous with freedom and goodness. On the road to being a missionary, we must be able to leave everything: father, mother,
friends, brothers, sisters and home. This means to give ourselves to others.
Our Community is missionary because it teaches us to be unselfish, to detach from the frenzy of always having to only receive; to remain comfortable in our securities and pleasures. This is slavery, these
are chains and this is prison. The young men and women who have understood the method of the way of the Community are not happy until they have said to themselves, “what I have received, I want to return and give back to the needy.” Such are those who allow other young people to come into the Community to rediscover a new life.
We know that the Lord is the One who generates life; and we cannot be so foolish as to refuse to be used as small, simple, poor and fragile instruments so that He can continue to give life to other young people. I am aware and conscious that I am not the one who is making this happen in you. It is the work of God the Father, of Him who desired, thought of, created and loved you. I always believed that you can also have the possibility to meet, know and understand this Father who heals the heart of mankind, the heart of his children.
That is why we will continue to say “yes” to life wherever He wants us to go. The first thing the Lord asks of us is to be free of our fear, because to stop in front of fear means to build a prison. This is the right moment to have courage to open the door and to begin this missionary journey; to be involved and suffer for the life of others, caring for their problems, their loneliness, their poverty and their difficulties.
A young man who is not able to overcome his boundaries, fears, arrogance and selfishness will always be haunted by the sadness of his past and will never taste or enjoy the beauty of freedom and life. The Community invites us to unselfishly go out to meet others in concrete action, to be able to involve ourselves completely.
To make this choice, we need to be determined and consistent, we need to resolve to say “yes” everyday. We need to have courage to ask for help from Him who can give it to us through prayer, for without prayer you cannot be pure and good and are unable to love. If you do not create a dialogue with God, a friendship with Him,
even though you think you can love, it is a love that is only selfishness, self gratification and for your own interest. Your brother will receive nothing because God is the only fountain of love, life, truth, goodness and faithfulness. True love seeks the happiness of others, which is to live in truth and light. The young men and women who return from the mission are strengthened in every aspect, in patience, goodness and mercy. Overall, they receive more help than what they gave to others, because when you give with joy you receive 100 percent more than the little you gave.
