March

The truly poor people are those who have not yet encountered love, hope, or faith There are people who own many houses, or other things and consider themselves to be wealthy. However they are actually the poorest people because the true wealth we need comes from an encounter with God. Even if you don’t own a coat, shoes, or anything but yet you have hope in your heart, you can walk barefoot on rocks and do just fine because you hold in your hands the only true treasure which is life itself.

In the beginning of the Community our true wealth was poverty which transformed our empty pockets into a brave hearts, full of trust in the Providence which is God  our Father. We discovered that our God can’t anymore look up but has a gaze forever fixed downwards towards us,  and the moment when we find the courage to look up is the moment when our lives finally unite: meeting God is the true richness in which you will lack nothing.

Sometimes life still asks us to make sacrifices, suffer through hard times, or to overcome some difficulties, but it doesn’t matter for it is in those moments of deep solitude in which you discover that material things don’t matter and what really counts is that you exist and God is with you; you don’t feel alone anymore nor are you afraid any longer.

The true wealth in life is in giving not taking. In loving, forgiving, sharing, smiling and serving others you feel complete and fulfilled. Our wealth is found in the things we do each day done well and with love. It’s so nice, for instance, to decide to  have clean, transparent, attentive, clear, piercing eyes, eyes that see because they love. oftentimes we look but we do not see because our selfishness makes us blind. He who never smiles, who doesn’t know how to communicate is poor, very poor; and his poverty is not only poverty but complete misery because  he does not have any friends, he does not see or serve the needs of others, he thinks only about himself, and he is sad and alone. This poor soul is torn to pieces, because he lives a life without God and doesn’t know how to love.

We are, however, children of a Father that has given us faith, hope, love, the courage to take risks for a good cause, and it is when we encounter him and open the doors of our heart to him that we become the wealthiest people in the world because that which the Lord gives to everyone, we gather in faith, and we become participants thereof. From that moment on we begin to live life in its fullness even when we are faced with a cross, a sickness or humiliation  When it is just us and there’s nothing left around us, we still have life, our life: Just think, the one thing that is everlasting.

Let’s find time to speak with Jesus through prayer without fear and in truth, because in this way only will our true freedom open up and become infinite space. Freedom is infinite!

If we don’t pray, a great void remains and into that sad and dark void we fall. Prayer is  peace, nourishment, and fulfillment and allows us to live in the light, expanding our horizons and rendering us capable of speaking with love which is the greatest voice of prayer.

Young children don’t like the darkness but even we adults have fear of the night. Prayer well done illuminated both our day and night. We are created for the light, we are the children of Resurrection.

Happy Easter to you all!
