Message for Lent

Dear brothers and sisters, youth and children from our houses, families and friends, we start walking in this time of Lent in order to travel, like the People of Israel, in the desert of daily life passing from the slavery of sin into complete freedom, given to us through God's forgiveness which frees us from the chains of evil which have wounded our human nature.  Lent is a precious time offered to us by the Church to bring truth back to our prayer, to our fasting, to our gestures of love and charity, and to verify our faith's quality so that it will be authentic and not made up of exterior appearances or masks, but of substance, of true and profound choices rooted in silence and in the secret of our hearts.
Lent is a time in which through fasting and small commitments of conversion we can see more clearly who we are, returning to the essentials: true joy is not in things, but inside of us!  Let us unite with prayer and sacrifice to the family of God's people, our family, which for their hunger fast each day, suffer daily, are lacerated and humiliated by the trials of life, who fight like we do the "good fight for faith" in places where life and faith are often tested.
Lent leads us towards the true Promised Land which is Easter: He is with us in this forty day journey giving us the strength to welcome and live each of life's situations, including the humiliation of the Cross, which is a part of everyone's life.  He is always with us, therefore, have no fear!  The Cross exists, but if it is carried in faith, silence, love, forgiveness, it does not have the last word.  May Mary accompany us towards this true freedom and always keeps hope alive in us.  Good journey!
