"St Augustine" June 2007

Finally we've had some good rain in Florida. Hopefully, it'll get rid of all those fires. We are getting our normal summer weather--hot and humid--and we can see how this weather is affecting the guys, but it is part of learning to suffer. To their great joy, we turned on the A.C. at the beginning of June, like we do every year, but it will not be joyful to see our electric bill in the summer!

All three houses seem to be doing well with all the changes. We have plenty of projects going. At St. Maria Goretti, the top floor is pretty much done. It's tile and wood. Denis is working on the chapel wood floor. He is doing a very good job. Jorge, Giacinto, David, and Chris are starting to stucco the outside block building that will be the workshop. We already did the stucco inside. Jon Paul is the new cook, and the guys are really happy! Andrej (CT) just entered St. Maria Goretti.

At Mary Immaculate we are making progress with the inside of the old house, doing all the wiring and the rough for the A.C. We also were able to mark the road and the site for the future buildings. It's progress, so we can start to do some hand clearing in areas that will need to be cleared anyway! The guys seem to be in good spirits, and a lot is going on. The grass looks very green, thanks to the rain!

At Our Lady of Hope, the garden is full of tomatoes, which we have been eating every day. The heavy rain did some damage to the garden, but it is still giving us a bunch of veggies. The lake finally looks like a lake. You cannot see any islands anymore.

Peter (NC) just entered. Luke was just sent home for medical reasons, and we hope he will come back later! Paul, who has been struggling a lot, seems doing a little bit better, and it is very encouraging to see him begin to smile. At OLOH we have 15 guys who have been in Community for six months or less. For sure, it is an interesting time, but it is good for the older guys to help others and not focus only on themselves!

Mother Elvira, all the sisters and brothers, and 150 guys and girl of the Community went to Rome for the general audience with Pope Benedict XVI, who acknowledged the presence of Comunita Cenacolo. I did speak with some of the brothers, and they told me that Cenacolo was in St. Peter's square full of joy with flags, dancing, and singing. They went with three buses and traveled back and forth in the same day, going almost 1000 miles! They were tired when they got back!

After Rome, Father Stefano went to Medjugorje because there is a pilgrimage of the former members for the 16 year anniversary of Campo della Vita. It will be a very special time for the guys there.

Unfortunately Erik H. and Jarrod left the Community in Italy and came back to the States. We will pray for them! Dax went on verifica, and unfortunately he has decided to leave Community early also.

Today, Saturday, June 16, Shannon H got married in South Florida. She was the first American girl to enter Comunita Cenaoclo. Being the first was not an easy journey for Shannon, but she persevered. Kim & Vincenzo & the kids and Joyce and I were happy to be at her wedding! Our prayers are with her and her husband Andrew.

Father's day is this Sunday. We hope for all the fathers to have a wonderful day, and we pray for them But we need to remember who really is the Father of all humanity, God the Father. He is the One that we always need to focus on more.

Grazie

ciao
