I want to start this message telling everybody that we are fine We just received an incredible amount of rain, more than 10 inches from the tropical storm “Fay.” I know that many of you were worried. We appreciate your prayers and support. Basically, in the last 3 days we were not able to work outside at all. The guys made rosaries and crosses all day. There was no alternative, and we were checking the weather report often! We were fortunate that we did not lose power, so our refrigerators kept on running. Last night we sent the guys from MI to OLOH because we were concerned about the many trees that we have around the living quarters that could fall with the 50 mile per hour wind that was blowing! So far nothing has happened, but it is better be safe than sorry! I was at MI today to feed the animals when we had a moment of break from rain. The property is so flooded, but there is no water inside. We will get a lot of mosquitoes with all this rain! Please send bug spray! At OLOH the lake is full and so is the creek. Many trees are down in the woods, but there is no major damage to anything. We will have some clean up work, but we are waiting for Monday when, hopefully, it will be dry again. It seems that the rain won’t stop until the end of the weekend, but we are very grateful because it could be much worse. There are so many people in our state that had their houses flooded. Lucas (IL) came back after he left and did some good therapy,” like we call it in Community, with David C., sleeping in the shed and working outside long hours. It was very good for both of them, and they did a really good job organizing all the material that we have in our shops! On August 15 we spent the day at MI for the Feast of the Assumption. We had Mass and then a nice barbecue. Then all the guys had the great surprise to go to the beach. It was just a great day. The weather was perfect, and the ocean was flat like a pool! The guys really had a blast. It was a gift to all of them because they had been waking up every night at 1am to pray the novena to enlighten us about a future Community in Alabama. We are still praying. It looks like I will go in Birmingham again sometime next month! I had a chance to speak with Mother Elvira. She has confirmed that she will be with us October 24-26 for our retreat and Festival. She asked me a lot of questions about the community here in America. It was so good to talk with her. I received a nice email from Dan N. our Community parent who is doing an experience in Cenacolo for 3 months. I am posting it give you an idea of what he is doing: “Just a note from Lourdes. Everything and everyone is fine. Lourdes is so beautiful and Holy. I look down onto the shrine and can hear the thousands of pilgrims singing to Mary every night. It is a beautiful sound in my heart, as much as in my ears. I am pulling weeds, digging potatoes, and replacing walls for terraces. I am having good talks with the guys and have so much opportunity to learn more. My prayer has been very strong, and I am able to get down the Shrine for Mass frequently. Many pilgrims are coming through and I gave testimony to a group from Chicago that included Cardinal Francis George. The guys from Medjugorje arrived a couple days ago for the big show (The Luminous Mysteries), and it was so good to see the Americans Eric, Joe, John ,and Dan Love, as well as a few guys that I know from my experience with Dan in Livorno. I am excited for the big show on the 15th. For sure I will contact you after and let you know how wonderful it was. I am praying for the houses in Florida and the Rita family, but let me know of any special intentions you may have. I hope you all are well. Thank you for this gift. Dan N.”
