A thousand congratulations for Mother Elvira

The guys and girls from different houses, together with a group of friends and parents, got together on Saturday, January 19, 2008 at the sports gymnasium in Fossano, to celebrate our dearest Mother Elvira’s birthday.  As soon as we arrived, a group of guys and girls brought a festive song to life just for her, with best wishes and thanks from a representative from all “branches” of our Community: guys, girls, consecrated brothers and sisters, families, children, missionaries, friends, and parents…
Then the Holy Mass began and we thanked God in a special way for the gift of Mother Elvira’s life.
After lunch, which was prepared by parents and friends, we prayed the Rosary and watched a few skits prepared by various houses.  These were moments of laughter and emotions.  For example, the skit prepared by the girls, which made us reflect on the vocation of women, which is very dear to Elvira’s heart.  At the end of each dance it was nice to hear Mother Elvira’s comments, which made us think about how important it is to have prepared these skits in unity, understanding, and also in behaving a little bit like children.  The celebration continued: Monday and Tuesday, the guys and girls at the fraternity of Envie, got together with Mother Elvira, with many joyful songs, dances, and skits, along with catechism and the Holy Mass.  Here is an article from the daily newspaper, La Stampa, which reports the celebration in Fossano.

Mother Elvira’s thousand congratulations
Yesterday at Fossano’s sports gymnasium, there were a thousand people present already at nine in the morning.  Many young people.  Very many.  From different countries and social origin.  There were also many families.  And also religious people, nuns, priests.
Community Cenacolo’s youth  met at the sports gymnasium in Fossano to celebrate a very special birthday  for a special person, who, for the community, is their mother: sister Elvira. “It’s not an event or a demonstration – the guys said, it is simply a family celebration, in which we, sons and daughters, gather around our mother.  It is all here.”
Sister Elvira, on a few occasions, spoke and gave thanks.  “Guys, life is love and love is not just a word – she said this with a sweet voice, yet strong and vibrant – Love is a fact.  Love is in facts, in the gestures we make.  Every time that you do an act of love towards someone, in reality you have done it for yourselves.  Only in this way life has meaning.  Our Community is simply this: a big family in which you learn to love and be loved”.
