Prayer to the Blessed Damien De Veuster
O Lord,
You inflamed the heart of your servant,
the Blessed Damien of Molokai,
with an ardent love
for the sacred Hearts of Jesus and Mary;
and you filled him with zeal
for Adoration of the Eucharist,
and for the service of the lepers of Molokai;
he gave his whole self to them,
humble amongst the humble,
even dying himself from leprosy
amongst the lepers.
Like him, teach us to live generously,
to serve you with faithful love,
to give of ourselves
without holding anything back,
to work without tiring,
announcing Your love to all of mankind
without expecting anything in return.
Give us the gift of knowing
how to contemplate,
live, and announce
the marvels of your infinite mercy.
Blessed Damien,
your love healed many lepers:
pray and intercede for us
so that we may become
free from the leprosy of sin
that destroys our soul;
make us capable of accepting the forgiveness of God
that makes us new men,
capable, like you, of loving and serving.
